Unspoiled nature and old battlefields of the Battle of Okinawa await you in Gushikami, Yaese Town. In this program, guides will provide explanations of these local resources from the perspective of SDGs.
[Experience of visiting the Gama]
Taking advantage of the geological features of the natural limestone cave, the Krashin Ujo shelter was used as a base by the Japanese military during the war. By entering the Gama and experiencing what the situation was like at the time, we can contemplate peace for the future.
[Coral reef formations seen from the beach]
Coral reefs surround the island of Okinawa. As well as serving as a natural embankment, the beautiful sandy beaches attract travelers and the coral also plays a role in the lives of the Okinawan people in the form of Ryukyu limestone.
[Forest preserving a precious ecosystem]
The Forest of Horohoro has been left untouched in the southern part of Okinawa, where urbanization is progressing. About 100 plant and animal species have been found here, forming a precious ecosystem, and you can also see city walls from the Gusuku era hidden under the vegetation.
