“Learning About the Battle of Okinawa through Theater: What Was Entrusted to Us by the Shiraume Student Corps?”, NPO Nature Experience School

The visitors can watch an original play based on the testimonies of Kiku Nakayama and Yutaka Takemura, who were stationed at the Army Field Hospital as part of the Shiraume Gakutotai (or Shiraume Student Corps), during the wartime in Okinawa. The play is performed by professional actors from Okinawa. Before and after the play, the audience is given a small talk on the Battle of Okinawa, and they can then can exchange opinions with the members of the theater company.
Summary
Kazuko, who survived the Battle of Okinawa as a member of the Shiraume Gakutotai, receives a letter from a former Japanese soldier. The events of that time, the memories of which she had sealed away, come back to Kazuko, and she decides to tell the story of her best friend, Ume-chan, who had passed away in the Battle of Okinawa.
